Action taken on failing hospital
21 September 2012 Last updated at 15:23 ET An “urgent legal restriction” has been placed on the use of a hospital day surgical unit after inspectors found “completely unacceptable” failings. Inspectors said the unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield was being used for long-term care when there were not even washing facilities. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has ordered the hospital to restrict the length of patient stays.

Muslim man’s right-to-life battle

They are in dispute with Pennine Acute Hospitals trust, which does not want to revive the 55-year-old if he worsens. Doctors say resuscitation would not be in the best interests of Patient L.

3 August 2012 Last updated at 07:02 ET A cash-strapped hospital trust has been told to improve standards of patient care at Dewsbury and District Hospital. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has issued a formal warning to The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust following a visit last month. Inspectors found some patients on ward two “were not being treated with dignity, respect or consideration”.
NHS assault claims passed to CPS
22 July 2012 Last updated at 08:52 ET Claims that three NHS staff assaulted “vulnerable” patients at a hospital in east London have been passed to prosecutors, Scotland Yard has said. Patients at Whipps Cross University Hospital in Leytonstone were alleged to have suffered “physical and verbal abuse”, Barts Health NHS Trust said. The healthcare assistants have been suspended and cannot work elsewhere in the health service in the meantime.

The Care Quality Commission also found “irregularities” at some clinics. Ex-NHS chief is ‘being gagged’
29 June 2012 Last updated at 04:33 ET The former head of an NHS Trust has been paid more than £500,000, including legal costs, as part of a severance deal which also stops him discussing patient safety, the BBC has learned. Gary Walker was sacked as chief executive of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust in February 2010. He dropped a claim for unfair dismissal in a deal with the NHS.
